Internet Access Provider Disk Report: February 1996

This report began in August 1995 and is updated monthly. Totals reflect all disks received through February 29, 1996.

Total Disks Received: 45

After a record 11 disks were received in January, the collective services paused to catch their breath and sent out only five in February. Overall, 45 disks have been received since the report began.

Whose Disks?

America Online slipped a bit to 58% of the total disks received, while CompuServe held on to the number two spot, with an 18% share.

NOTE: Others are Earthlink and Concentric.

Type of Disks

A lone CD-ROM disk arrived in February, but it hardly made a dent in the stats: 3.5" disks kept a healthy 84% slice of total disks received.

Delivery Method

Not one disk came via direct mail, this after a record six via direct mail in January, causing the percentage of total disks received by direct mail to drop from 35% to 31%. Concentric Network did send a direct mail card with a phone number to call, should I want a disk -- a sign of things to come?

Prodigy tied American Online, the first time America Online's had any real challenge since November 1995.
