Here's the deal: who hasn't gotten about 8 million of those disks from America Online. I have loads floating around my office, and I'm always being sent more. I finally decided to keep track and see what trends appear. Why not--some people weigh the amount of junk mail they receive. Besides, I'd like to play with numbers. What the report shows is the number of disks that I received from August 1995 through April 1996. I stopped keeping count after that date due to time constraints.
To be fair, I'm not a typical person. I subscribe to many computer magazines as well as all the major online services. Still, I believe the results are interesting. My count is of disks I received without requesting them. You'll see that most of them have come in magazines. I'm still waiting to find one in the glove box of a car.
